The Ldlb monospace typeface is based on the concept of the library as a commons: places where knowledge is collectively gathered, organized, and made accessible. The typeface is based on index cards from the Weimar University Library, whose typewritten text and administrative markings are interpreted as visual traces of this knowledge infrastructure. These forms give rise to a monospaced serif typeface that connects organizational systems with signs of use.
