Locher is a variable display typeface consisting of two masters. The first style, Locher Regular, is based on Adrian Frutiger’s logo for Tissages Normands Réunis (1970s), which is characterized above all by its striking circular white space. The second style, Locher ExtraBold, develops a distinct visual language from this starting point. By reducing the serif system and shrinking the internal spaces, the relationship between black and white space changes fundamentally. Locher explores how the effect of a typeface changes by altering its counterforms, and makes this process visible within a variable type system.
