Nuvall is a variable display typeface consisting of two masters. The first style, Nuvall Sans, is based on Nouvelle Vague by Walter Haettenschweiler (1961), which is characterised primarily by its wide, high-contrast, and sans-serif appearance. The second style, Nuvall Serif, reinterprets the formal language of Nuvall Sans within a serif system. In addition to the increased stroke weight, contrast is emphasised primarily through serifs that emerge at the extremities as points of contact. Nuvall explores the transitions between sans serif and serif and makes them visible within a variable type system.
